Report Shows Health Care Professions Top List of Most In-Demand Jobs for 2019

According to a new report by CareerCast, health care professions top the list of the most in-demand jobs for 2019, with home health aides ranked the most in-demand. By 2024, the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 47 percent increase in home health positions.

Other in-demand positions in the health field include Medical Services Manager, Medical Technologist, Personal Care Aide and Registered Nurse.

“In 2018, the U.S. labor market offered more openings than there were job seekers,” Kyle Kensing, online content editor at CareerCast said in a recent PR Newswire release. 2019 arrives with some economic uncertainty but continuing trends in the labor market offer insight into which jobs will have the highest demand for the new year.”

The health care field kicked off the 2019 year as the leading industry of the highest percentage of job openings, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey.

Health care and professional or business services have been known to be leading industries in regards to the number of job openings, however the health care field dropped to third in 2017. Health care profession increased to the number one rank as a result of an increase of job openings between 2017 and 2018 and a decrease in professional or business services openings.

A 2018 report from Mercer predicates that there will be 2.3 million job openings in the health care field over the next six years.

Salary is a key contributing factor for a wide range of jobs that are in high-demand to be filled. In order to attract applicants, industry-wide wages in construction are on the rise. Another contributing factor for filling the positions is a shortage in finding enough applicants with the required education and experience.

Some health careers with potential shortages include Home Health Aide and Personal Care Aide. Though both positions yield Bureau of Labor Statistics predicted increases, they both have low annual salaries of approximately $23,000 per year.
