A new study reveals the motivations and experiences of women seeking abortion medication online.
The practice can be a response to clinic access barriers in states with and without restrictive abortion laws, or can occur when self-managed abortion is preferred over clinical care, researchers say.
Researchers learned that online options may offer either information or medications, but not both. Further, lack of trusted online options can delay care and lead women to consider ineffective or unsafe alternatives.
