SALEM — State police assigned to the Essex District Attorney’s Office and Salem detectives are investigating the death of an 81-year-old resident of the Grosvenor Park Health Center in Vinnin Square after he reportedly used a handgun to shoot and kill himself on Friday night, according to Salem police Capt. Conrad Prosniewski and Essex District Attorney spokeswoman Carrie Kimball Monahan.
Kimball Monahan said the district attorney’s office has identified the person, but is not releasing the identity to the public. No foul play is suspected.
The firearm was registered to the deceased, Kimball Monahan said. Police are not treating the incident as a criminal act and no one will face charges. It is customary for state police to become involved in death investigations and work with local detectives, she said.
