As the health care industry faces shortages in doctors and nurses, local providers are increasing recruitment efforts that include bringing in more employees from outside the United States.
Geisinger is in its first year partnering with Medefis, a vendor management system that brings in experienced nurses from Jamaica, Philippines, India and Africa. The three-year program has brought in 100 nurses in the Geisinger network, 50 at Danville, in the last 10 months with the goal of employing those nurses once their original contract is finished.
