Two of the Dayton area’s largest employers are planning a new facility meant to train and upskill individuals in an industry that has an urgent need for workers.
Premier Health and Sinclair Community College have proposed a new “Center for Nursing Excellence” at the school’s Centerville campus. The center would provide ongoing professional development support for nurses employed at Premier Health, and would work to address dire shortages of nurses projected in the future by cross-training Sinclair nursing students with experienced nurses employed by Premier.
Officials say the new center would create up to 25 direct jobs, support up to 250 existing jobs and sustain up to 1,000 permanent jobs. These jobs will be critical to healthcare companies like Premier, which anticipates a vacancy rate of 150 nursing positions per year. That number also has the potential to significantly increase in the coming years.
